Up to 8 children, hour and a half, week-days,( open til 7.30pm), only £150

We've just launched this new week-day party which works well both for little ones for whom two hours is a very long time! and primary children for a small  after school party.

We cram virtually everything in that we do in a standard party, we just spend a little less time pampering the pony, ensuring there's enough time for each child to have a ride.

‘Shortie’ Pony Party overview – hour and a half (max 8 children)
- Welcome, safety chat and brief introduction to all the ponies
- Presentation of special birthday rosette to the birthday child
- Groom and pamper one pony with ribbons and stickers

Our most popular pony party

Our most popular pony party is for 6-10 children aged between  4-8 (I can  create memorable parties  for 2-22 children and for ages 2-10)

 There are often squeals of delight as the children round the corner of the path and see the ponies for the first time!!!!

After  introductions (children and ponies!) short safety chat , quick overview for the parent and directions to the tea, coffee and biscuits (for the parents!) I bring one of the ponies out for the children to touch and feel.  The first part of the party is structured to ensure that all the children feel safe around the pony before they ride-especially important for my younger visitors.

They then go and choose a brush to groom the pony. I have a selection of brushes – different colours, types, sizes and shapes including butterfly and heart shaped brushes with handles specifically designed to be easy to use by younger children.

Then it’s ribbons time – I explain in language that the children can understand how to put the ribbons in the pony’s mane. For older children I show them how to plait the hair.
 
We have LOTS of different coloured ribbons, clips and sparkly bobbles for them to choose from! The children also place stickers all over the pony – something which is particularly popular with younger children!

 Once we’ve exhausted all the ribbons and stickers, usually after about half an hour,  it’s time for riding. The birthday child always goes first AND has an extra go at the end as it’s their special day!

 Usually whilst one child is riding another is helping us to lead the pony around the orchard.

 The remaining children have the option to do a variety of other activities whilst their waiting their turn. Older children enjoy decorating horse shoes with ribbons, paint pens and gems, or making pompom ponies, pre-schoolers have the option of pony colouring pictures or our pre-school outdoor ride on toys (choice is yours!)

We also have a hand painted pin the tail on the pony which is popular!!

 If your budget allows we can provide alternative craft activities and/or addional entertainment, eg age suitable fairground rides!!!

 If the party is with 6 children we usually have just enough time to either paint the pony (ages 6 up) or go into the paddock and stroke all the ponies.

The pony then returns to her friends in the paddock , the children wash their hands and have half an hour either in the orchard  in view of the ponies, or in our decorated party stable for party tea.

Total party time 2 hours.

 Our chit chat is relevant to the ages of the children – what works for 3 and 4 year olds is quite different to the things we talk about with 8 and 9 year olds!

 Your party can sometimes be themed – currently the children can dress the pony as a unicorn or a princess with the children coming dressed as princesses and kings and cowboys and Pocahontas. So far we humans have cowboy outfits and I’m sure we could stretch to princess outfits too!!!! You can always try me with your idea!!!!

 Your child receives a lovely birthday rosette on arrival and one of our luxury party bags at the end of the party.

A really good indication of children having had a fantastic party is reading any testimonials the organization publishes from happy customers.

One or two is good but a string of current testimonials is a very reassuring sign.

Can you visit before the party
A visit to the location is a great opportunity to meet the person who is going to be responsible for entertaining your child and party guests. You can also see the location where the party will be held and look over the ponies, who should appear happy and healthy – not too fat nor too thin.

Safety aspects
Are there safety signs around the location and/or is there a safety briefing at the start of the party?

How do you know the pony handlers have sufficient knowledge and experience to handle the pony and children mix!

Does the saddle/equipment appear in good working order and to fit the ponies?

You should also check that the organization has appropriate insurance (public liability insurance is compulsory)

Half term pony fun been very popular

Well, we're nearly at the end of a VERY busy half term week. All the ponies have behaved impeccably, as has the weather and all our visitors!
A number of people booked in for a private 90 minute holiday activity, one parent commenting how relaxing he found the session-even our parties are pretty chilled-I think the children pick up on the quiet nature of the ponies and our quiet way with them and act accordingly!
Our hour long pony experiences have been popular as ever.
We held an open morning for the first time- 2 1/2 hours of informal pony fun. Feedback was great and a couple of the mums have made suggestions which we will implement for the next one on 5th March. Fortunately everyone took my advice and pre-booked as there were so many visitors we would have had to have turned visitors wanting to pay on the day away-take note!!
We created a quiz for the open day which went down well and visitors had obviously listened to my ramblings as everyone got at least 10 of the 14 questions correct-well done!
We've been so busy that on some days all four ponies have been working-Maisie was worked for the first time since she arrived in October. She was pampered a couple of times and was quite happy munching the grass whilst children groomed and decorated her mane. We will continue her ridden training and hope that she'll be ready for visitors to ride as well as pamper at Easter.
Today's visitors were lucky enough to see the start of the change of coat for Poppy-her long winter hairs have started to come out to leave just the short hairs so she won't be too hot for summer. This is great for the ponies but not for me as I end up covered in horse hair!

Come and see our new party pony, Maisie

Finally got round to taking a photo of a rather muddy Maisie.

She's looking very content as she and Jinny 'escaped' from the area they were supposed to be in as it obviously didn't have enough grass in it and the pair of them have been happily munching the VERY long grass in the out of bounds area!
Maisie is only around 30" tall and is an 8 year old, Miniature Shetland mare (girl pony).
She'll be assisting with pony experiences and pony parties for both tiny tots and teens plus she'll partner with adults on our corporate team building and leadership courses.
As we've done with all our ponies, Maisie will undergo some induction training with my daughter and friends before she's let lose on our visitors!

Training pony to drive

Have been thinking for a while that I need to train Jinny to drive to keep her weight down-I'm too big to ride her and my daughter already has her own pony to ride.
I put the driving saddle on today and the driving reins. She wasn't keen with me standing behind her (this is usual as horses can't see behind them and are prey animals!) and tried to turn round to face me (which is usual). Once she realised I was staying behind, she settled into it really well. I was rather surprised as I could position her where I wanted her-we could go in straight lines or go on a circle-usually they wiggle around at first!
I'll try her like this for a couple more days then I'll put the breeching straps on- they go round their back legs and sometimes they protest!
It'll be great to have a driving pony again-we have a little carriage that I hope will fit her. At least we can practise in the orchard before going out on the road.
Can't wait!

Wonderful week-end of perfect pony parties

Just completed a marathon of 4 pony parties in one week-end. Phew. All went really well with wonderful feedback.
The childrens parties are enjoyed not only by the children but by the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and others who are amazed at the fantastic outdoor space-I think everyone is smitten once they see our tiny party ponies grazing in our Orchard at the bottom of the garden-what an idyllic childrens party venue!
I've just been to look at some unusual gazebo's to provide cover for when it rains (as I'm sitting watching the rain outside!). That's just one of the things I'm trying to enhance, as well as providing a pleasant, landscaped seating area for the adults to enjoy their complimentary drinks.
Got to look at the diary and sort out some dates for childrens holiday activities with the ponies. These were a big success at Easter-I just need to find some space to squeeze some in!
